We are very saddened yet proud to release this commemorative two-set recording at SoundOut 2014 of Sean Baxter. Sean passed away on 15th March 2020 (May he Rest in Peace). Sean was an major part of Australia's and especially Melbourne’s avant garde and experimental music community for many years. at the Make it Up Club etc. He was well known for his brilliant partnership in the longstanding trio with avant-garde musicians Anthony Pateras and Dave Brown, as well as the group Bucketrider etc. He can be heard in the trio with Anthony Pateras and Dave Brown here:

In the first set of the SoundOut 2014 recording, Sean is heard performing a seminal drum solo that lifted the lid on approaches to sound on drums: from the randomness of multiple sticks dropping onto skins; the crackling of delicate paint on the surface of metal lids; and the deliberate genius of his drumming technique, he never ceased to amaze. He can also be heard in a Quartet with two double bassists, Clayton Thomas and Slawek Janicki, along with the ever brilliant pianist Cor Fuhler (who also passed away on the 18th July 2020, May he Rest In Peace). This Quartet set was also released as part of the Cor Fuhler commemorative release on SoundOut recordings. We had planned to ask Sean to SoundOut 2021, alas sadly this was not to be. Viva la Sean!
